- Quote of the Super Bowl:
“We always knew that the Patriots’ defense was one of the weakest links of the team, but what happened tonight—the strength of the Patriots team got … debacled!” – Emmitt Smith on ESPN SportsCenter

- Jazz and Blogs:
Today’s NYT has a great column about jazz (especially jazz from the 70s on) and how blogs are playing a role in creating more interest in this music. Highly recommended!

- Haitian Fight Song:
I was talking with a friend last week about Mingus. I saw him just once in 1973 at Williams College. Turns out he spent some time ensconced at SUNY Buffalo around that time.
Well today another friend turned me on to this YouTube vignette.
The next time someone tells you that your band plays like a bunch of girls, take it as a high compliment!

- Quote of the Day:
“The only thing we have to use is fear itself” — Newsweek’s Jonathan Alter (while discussing Bush administration and politics on today’s Countdown with Keith Olbermann).
Update: Jeff Jarvis in Buzz Machine “We have nothing to fear but his lack of fear.”

- Chookooloonks:
I’ve fallen in love with the stories and the quality of the writing in Karen Walrond’s Chookooloonks blog. A small example of musical phrasing from her post about connections:
“For the rest of the flight, we did. not. stop. talking.”
And then there’s this hilarious birthday tale: thirty-nine, or the case of the flapping hoo-has.
Highly recommended!
